Four wildfires converged into one ferocious burning beast. What happened next, forever altered the life of Kim A. Talbert.

Kim is an award-winning nonfiction author, columnist, speaker and writing conference instructor. In April 2011, her home was surrounded by four major wildfires officially named the PK Complex fire. Kim’s book, The Burning Beast, unfolds her personal experience with the fire.

“I turn and see, beside my car, a tall cedar tree explode into a red-orange ball of fire in an area of green trees and foliage that wasn’t burning yet. Or so I thought. I am in the midst of it, and really, there’s no turning back if I want to get home. I’m committed. Matt would just die if he knew the predicament I’m in.”

Surrounded by ferocious wildfires, Kim, her husband, and their two Pomeranian dogs were evacuated from their home at Possum Kingdom Lake soon after she arrived home. From Austin, they plugged in to Facebook, a blog, text messaging and email updates.Through social media, the frightening story of the Burning Beast unfolded, and Kim tells that story in real time as it happened. It is her passionate expression of how the tragedy affected her family, her immediate community and those who supported them.

The wildfire she calls the Burning Beast, officially named the PK Complex, forever altered her mentally, physically and spiritually. As you step into her nightmare, The Burning Beast may forever alter your perspective of life on each of these levels as well.

Join me as Kim shares her experience with The Burning Beast and God’s amazing protection and comfort in a time of tragedy.
